Best hosting for a small SaaS MVP in 2026: $5-15/mo, real advice
Some prices quoted in this guide are out of date. It is being rebuilt on our price index; for current prices use the comparison pages, which show when each price was checked.
An MVP has one job: exist reliably enough that early customers can use it. It doesn't need 99.99% uptime, doesn't need multi-region failover, and doesn't need a Kubernetes cluster. It needs a small VPS with your app, a database, and a cache — all running on the same box. This guide names the picks that actually work.

What a SaaS MVP actually needs
- Your app: any language / framework. Rails, Django, Laravel, Next.js, Rust, Elixir — all fine.
- A database, usually Postgres.
- A cache, usually Redis.
- A queue worker for background jobs.
- A scheduler for periodic tasks.
- SSL (Let's Encrypt).
- Backups to remote storage.
- Uptime monitoring (UptimeRobot free tier).
All of these fit on a single 4 GB VPS at MVP scale (< 500 users).
Recommended picks
Launch MVP ($5/mo)
Hetzner CX22 at $4.60/mo — 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe.
Enough for your app + Postgres + Redis + queue worker. The single most common MVP hosting answer in 2026 among developer forums.
MVP with early traction ($10-20/mo)
DigitalOcean Basic 4 GB at $24/mo — 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage.
Or Hetzner CX32 at $7.60/mo for the same shape at a fifth the price if regions permit.
Add DO Managed Postgres at $15/mo when your DB starts feeling operational (usually around 1,000 users).
MVP with concurrent user load ($30-50/mo)
DigitalOcean Basic 8 GB at $48/mo — 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM.
Or Vultr Regular 8 GB at $40/mo for slight savings.
At this tier, split the database off to a managed service — cost is going up anyway.

Total monthly cost: $4.60 + a few cents of B2 storage. Total.
When to add complexity
- >500 daily active users → split Postgres to a managed service or its own VPS.
- Multi-region customers with real latency complaints → add a CDN in front (Cloudflare Free is often enough).
- Real business risk from downtime → add a standby replica of the database.
- Multi-service architecture required → then and only then consider Docker Compose or Kubernetes. Not before.
The single most common MVP hosting mistake
Buying too much hosting to look serious. A $50/mo AWS setup for an MVP with 3 users looks like it costs $50 more per month than a $5 Hetzner. It actually costs $45 per month plus the mental overhead of managing AWS billing plus the time you could have spent shipping features.
Ship on Hetzner. Move to something bigger when the traffic makes it necessary. Not before.
Which one you should actually pick
- Launching an MVP right now, uncertain if it will find users → Hetzner CX22 at $4.60/mo.
- Have early revenue, need slightly more headroom → Hetzner CX32 at $7.60/mo or DigitalOcean Basic 4 GB at $24/mo if you want managed Postgres later.
- Ecosystem-first (planning to use managed DB, K8s, other DO services) → DigitalOcean Basic 2 GB at $12/mo + Managed Postgres at $15.
- Cost is the only factor → Hetzner CX22.
