Best hosting for a Django application in 2026: the honest picks
Some prices quoted in this guide are out of date. It is being rebuilt on our price index; for current prices use the comparison pages, which show when each price was checked.
Django is one of the simplest Python frameworks to host on a plain Linux VPS. Gunicorn or uwsgi as the WSGI server, Nginx as the reverse proxy, Postgres as the database, Redis as the cache. This stack has been the same for a decade and any $5 VPS runs it.

What Django actually needs
- RAM: 2-4 GB for small, 8+ GB for scaled. Each gunicorn worker uses ~150-300 MB. 4 workers on 2 GB is tight; 4 workers on 4 GB is comfortable.
- vCPU: 2 for small, 4 for busy. Rule of thumb:
(2 × cores) + 1gunicorn workers. - Python 3.11+. Django 5.x requires 3.10+; 3.12 has meaningful perf gains.
- Postgres. Postgres and Django are extremely well-integrated; use it over MySQL.
- Redis for cache, sessions, and Celery workers.
- A background job runner. Celery is the classic pick; RQ is simpler; Huey is even simpler still.
- A scheduler. Celery Beat, or a systemd timer.
Recommended picks
Small production Django ($5-10/mo)
Hetzner CX22 at $4.60/mo — 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM. Install Python 3.12 (via pyenv or deadsnakes PPA), gunicorn, Nginx, Postgres, Redis. Run gunicorn under systemd; Nginx proxies to it.
Medium production Django ($15-30/mo)
DigitalOcean Basic 4 GB at $24/mo — 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, 4 TB transfer.
Better regional coverage than Hetzner. Add DO Managed Postgres 1 GB at $15/mo when your DB feels operational.
Scaled Django ($40+/mo)
Vultr Regular 8 GB at $40/mo — 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM. Run 8-9 gunicorn workers. Add Managed Postgres and Managed Redis.
Platform-as-a-service ($5-30/mo)
DigitalOcean App Platform — git-push deploys, auto-scaling, managed database bundled. Priced per resource unit. Not in our dataset. Reasonable option for teams that don't want to manage a VPS.
Fly.io / Railway / Render — similar developer experience, priced per resource. Compare directly at their pricing pages.
The gunicorn systemd service
/etc/systemd/system/gunicorn.service:
```
[Unit]
Description=Gunicorn daemon for Django app
After=network.target
[Service]
User=www-data
Group=www-data
WorkingDirectory=/var/www/myapp
Environment="DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=myapp.settings.production"
ExecStart=/var/www/myapp/venv/bin/gunicorn --workers 5 --bind unix:/run/gunicorn.sock myapp.wsgi:application
Restart=always
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
```
systemctl enable --now gunicorn
Nginx reverse-proxy config
```nginx
server {
server_name yourdomain.com;
location = /favicon.ico { access_log off; log_not_found off; }
location /static/ { root /var/www/myapp; }
location /media/ { root /var/www/myapp; }
location / {
include proxy_params;
proxy_pass http://unix:/run/gunicorn.sock;
}
}
```
certbot --nginx -d yourdomain.com for SSL.
Celery worker setup
/etc/systemd/system/celery-worker.service:
```
[Unit]
Description=Celery worker for Django
After=network.target
[Service]
User=www-data
WorkingDirectory=/var/www/myapp
ExecStart=/var/www/myapp/venv/bin/celery -A myapp worker --loglevel=info
Restart=always
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
```
Plus a celery-beat.service if you use Celery Beat for periodic tasks.
