The cheapest VPS to host Onyx, by its own requirements

Onyx is an AI chat and enterprise search platform. At its recommended spec (8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB disk), the cheapest plan we track is Contabo Cloud VPS 16 at $44.50 a month (ex VAT), and 10 providers have a plan that fits. At the bare minimum (4 vCPU, 10 GB RAM, 32 GB disk), Contabo Cloud VPS 6 at $9.00 (ex VAT) would do.

What Onyx's documentation asks for

Minimum
4 vCPU, 10 GB RAM, 32 GB disk
Recommended
8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB disk

From the documentation: Onyx Standard: Resource | Minimum | Preferred; CPU | 4 vCPU | 8+ vCPU; RAM | 10 GB | 16+ GB; Disk | 32 GB + ~2.5x indexed data | 500 GB for organizations <5000 users

  • These are the Onyx Standard figures. The lighter Onyx Lite mode needs 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 10 GB disk minimum (4 vCPU, 4 GB and 50 GB preferred).
  • In Standard mode, resource needs grow mainly with the number of indexed documents.

All figures are the providers' own published list prices in USD, on-demand monthly. The index was last refreshed 2026-10-14, and every row shows the date its own price was read. Nothing here is live or negotiated pricing. Where a provider bills a public IPv4 address on top, it is added to the monthly price, the ranking and every cost per vCPU or per GB, and the row shows the parts: the server, any disk priced apart, and the IPv4 charge. Some prices exclude VAT or need a commitment; the plan notes say which. Check the provider's pricing page before you commit.
